In memory of

Michael Dawson Savoie

December 7, 1942 -  August 27, 2025

It is with great sadness that his family announces his sudden but peaceful death at home in Toronto.

Beloved and cherished husband of Cecily Galt Savoie, with whom he shared 55 years of marriage. Dear and loving father to David (Danielle Peck) and Penelope (Cody Beales), all of whom he was very proud. Devoted and loving son of the late Henri Savoie (1974) and Helen Tierney (1990), of Montreal. Predeceased by sister, Brenda (2021); and survived by niece, Michelle Brazier.

Although Michael was born in Montreal, his formative years, which he fondly remembered, were spent in the Town of Mount Royal. He attended Collège Saint-Laurent and Sir George Williams University. Highlights of his youth included summers at Powter’s Camp on Lac Archambault and legendary winter weekends at ski shacks in St.-Sauveur and Knowlton. The friendships made throughout were many and continued to the end of his life.

A passion for car racing took hold in the 1960s at the track at St.-Jovite, where he volunteered with friends as corner crew for numerous Formula One events. It was one that would continue for a lifetime, with memorable trips to Mosport and enthusiastic involvement in the Porsche Club of America – Upper Canada Region.

Michael’s lengthy career in sales management began in Montreal with SC Johnson and would see the family live in Quebec City, Brantford, and finally, Toronto. Prior to retirement, he spent several years in the ice cream business with Good Humor-Breyers and Unilever.

Ever optimistic in the face of adversity, patient, and diligent, Michael was fiercely loyal and steadfast. Sometimes a man of few words, he was thoughtful and kind, devoted to his friends and to us, as we were to him. We are heartbroken.

The family extends its deepest gratitude to the Family Practice and Cardiac Care teams of Sunnybrook Hospital and to Dr. Fotis Katsikeris of Unify Health. Flowers gratefully declined. If desired, donations may be made in Michael’s memory to the Sunnybrook Foundation.

Cremation has taken place with interment to follow in Port Hope at a later date. A memorial gathering will be held Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., at Mount Pleasant Funeral Centre in Toronto. A link to livestream the memorial will appear at the top of this page at approximately 10:45 a.m. on September 10, 2025.

I’m so sorry for your loss. If it’s any comfort, Dave has forever shared brilliant photos of him and Michael enjoying fantastic times at various motorsport venues with a few sent only months ago in which he looked both happy and pretty darn cool. I know that it will be a difficult time but hopefully knowing that he was very much loved and very much loved his family and friends will be some consolation.

With all our love,
PJ , Charlotte, Isla and Freya

Profound condolences to your mom, Penny and you Dave. Reading this beautiful tribute and knowing you well, it was clear your dad meant so much to you. I admire the many occasions you were together at the track and car meets, admiring classics or moderns and sharing a passion. Time is so precious and you spent much of it with him. The memories really do live on and never fade. Lots of love always.

We were shocked when we heard about Michael and are so happy that we had the chance to visit with you both just a week before, Cecily. He always came out to Cobourg every time I was visiting which helped us keep in touch. Ron and I will miss those get togethers.

I loved joining him and all the others at the ski shacks in the Montreal area, even including his very early wakeup calls, Telstar by the Tornados at as high an octave as he could reach.

We are sorry that we cannot attend his Memorial, but will be thinking of you all at that time.

With love

Andrea and Ron
