Michael Curran
May 5, 1948 - September 10, 2015
Mike Curran passed away peacefully on September 10, 2015 in the company of his loving wife Linda Rainey and daughter Ashley Curran at MacKenzie Health Hospital in Richmond Hill, Ontario. Always resourceful, Mike turned his AV Club and DJ days at Oakwood Collegiate into a profession in corporate events as a founding partner of Avatar Communications and later, Chilcurn Communications. His proudest professional achievement came afterwards, as a professor and program coordinator of Media Studies at Seneca College.
Influenced by his Granny Annie’s recipes, he spent his summers brining and pickling all things imaginable, earning him a stack of country fair ribbons and the honour of three-time pickling grand champion at the Royal Winter Agricultural Fair.
Mike loved nothing more than to spoil his friends and family with his masterful cooking skills and great conversation. He loved to laugh and took great joy in delighting his guests with puns and a never-ending repertoire of Dad Jokes that always brought a laugh (and a few eye rolls). He also loved to sail, was a talented photographer and a world traveller.
We take comfort in knowing he is now in a better place in the company of his beloved golden retrievers Murray and Becker. To quote Monty Python, even though “This parrot is no more! He has ceased to be” he will always live on in our hearts and will be missed greatly.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory to the Trillium Gift of Life Foundation (https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/trillium-gift-of-life-network/) or to Golden Rescue (http://www.goldenrescue.ca) would be greatly appreciated by the family.
Details of a celebration of life to follow.
