Melburn Angus Travis
June 18, 1935 - November 5, 2015
Travis, Melburn Angus
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our father Mel Travis on Thursday, November 5th, 2015 at the age of 80 years. Beloved husband of the late Marlene Joyce Travis nee Heritage (1999). Loving father of Steven and Vicki Stamml (Raymond). Cherished grandfather of Rob, Trenton, Tim, Miranda and Jenna. Survived by his brother Marshall of Ontario. Predeceased by his siblings Julia, Alice, Flora, Helen, Garnet, Ross, Edward and Warren. Dad died suddenly as he would have wanted, independently and in his home without suffering. Independence and routine was very important to him.
Dad was born in Amherst, Nova Scotia in 1935 to Ira Travis and Marie Anna Vienneaue. Dad signed up with the RCAF in the mid 1950's. He led a crew that maintained aircraft at a base in Northern Alberta. He moved to Toronto in the late 1950's where he met and married Marlene Joyce Heritage in 1957 and had two kids in 1960 and 1962. Dad enjoyed many fishing and camping excursions with his family. He finally bought a trailer and settled on Rice Lake. He visited his birthplace many times over the years and kept in touch with his family there.
In Toronto he worked for Regal Stationery as a pressman. Many of the greeting cards produced by Regal's were printed or bronzed by a printing press he operated. In the mid 1970's, as a result of a postal strike, dad found new employment with Kimballs/CCL Labels until his retirement in 1999. For many years the Ontario license plate renewal stickers came off presses his team produced. No one really retires. Dad enjoyed driving the big yellow school buses for Laidlaw/First Student. He really enjoyed the charters. These were as diverse as University Pub Crawls, Casino Junkets, and an international hockey tournament.
With heavy hearts we are thankful for all the years we had together and all the love and support he shared. We are especially grateful for all the love and support from our families and friends.
Steven and Vicki
