Melanija Liepajnieks
April 12, 1925 - August 15, 2015
Melanija was the youngest of 7 children, born in Latvija. WWII caused Melanija to flee Latvia and move to England.
While in England, Melanija worked in a hospital and sang in the Latvian Choir.
Melanija then moved to Canada to join her cousin. She graduated from the School of Nursing at Queen's University in the 1950s. Given her passion for children, Melanija commenced her nursing career at Sick Children's Hospital in the Intensive Care Unit. She then continued her career at New Mount Sinai and Riverdale Hospitals.
Melanija is predeceased by her husband Edward. They enjoyed 30 wonderful years and many travels together. Melanija is survived by her daughter Anita and 3 grandchildren, Kristine, Erik and Richard, who all adored her.
Melanija was an extremely positive, happy, caring person who loved to laugh and socialize. Family and friends were very important to her and gave her great joy. She was a tremendous cook, seamstress and loved to take care of her gardens indoors and outdoors. She won a prize for her garden when she didn't even know that she was competing.
Melanija spent her last years at Providence Healthcare where the staff gave her exceptional care.
Melanija's smile, laugh, love and positive energy will be remembered and felt in our hearts and minds.
As it says on the family tombstone: Everlasting love will always keep us together.
