It is with deep sadness yet profound gratitude for a life well-lived, that we, her four surviving children, announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, Tong Me. She passed away quietly in her sleep at home on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, just shy of her 96th birthday.
Born on December 12, 1929 in Hong Kong, Tong Me lived there until she immigrated to Canada in the early 1990’s.
Tong Me lived a joyful life full of gratitude to her God. She cherished the simple enjoyment of sharing meals with her family, wholly content with even the simple blessings in life, always giving thanks to her Father in heaven. She was a woman who reflected the generosity of her savior, always looking to bless her loved ones. She delighted in using her gifts of music to share the good news of her savior through musical evangelism. Tong Me did not fail to keep meeting with her fellow Christians through her life and faithfully continued the fellowship online with her church even through COVID.
Beyond her dedication to family, Tong Me had a vibrant spirit expressed through her lifelong passions:
• Tai Chi: For many decades, Tong Me found tranquility and strength through the discipline of Tai Chi. She was a familiar sight in the local park, gracefully practicing her forms early each morning, sharing her knowledge and the benefits of the art with friends and neighbours.
• Cantonese Opera: Tong Me had a beautiful voice and a profound love for Cantonese Opera and singing in general. She frequently volunteered to perform with church groups at care homes to provide entertainment to the resident seniors.
These passions were not just hobbies; they were how she connected with her community and maintained her remarkable vitality well into her nineties.
She is lovingly remembered by her four surviving children:
Wing Sing Chan (son)
Cleo Chan (daughter)
Clara Lau (daughter)
Conrad Chan (son)
She leaves behind a vibrant legacy in her 8 grandchildren, all of whom cherish their memories of her love, cheerfulness and family meals together.
Tong Me is now reunited with her beloved late husband, Chan Chee and God the Father in Heaven.
We thank you all for your love and support during this difficult time.
Sincerely,
The Children of Tong Me
