Mathew Corindia
March 29, 1932 - April 27, 2016
It is with great sadness and a heavy heart to accept that Mathew (Matteo) Corindia passed away peacefully on April 27, 2016 with his loving and supporting family by his bedside. Never again will words or conversations be exchanged but Mathew’s memories will continue to live on and never fade where he played many roles and affected many people’s lives that he profoundly changed. A loving and dedicated husband to his wife Nancy, a role model in gratitude that he often expressed to his kids, Ross (Louise), Tony (Martine), Ines, Tom (Krysia), Teresa, Rick (Mary) and his grandchildren, Julian, Zachary, Dominic, Gabriel, Geneva, Claudia, Mattea and Keira, a shoulder of strength to his siblings, Anna (Iano), Rose (John), Joe (Barbara), John, Nancy (Paul), Mary, Anthony (Angela) and many nephews and nieces, and an open door of kindness and generosity to the many friends, companions and strangers. Arriving in Canada at the young age of 17, from the small town of Pachino Sicily, Mathew always saw the world through the eyes of a bright eyed boy, and embraced whatever life threw his way and always saw the solution instead of the problem. Most of us who knew Mathew will agree that he was a true original, in what he represented as a man of honour and integrity, and even in his final days when many came to visit at his bedside to pay their respect, he would turn the focus off of himself to make sure that you, and your family were happy and healthy. Mathew was a shining example of a man of his word who was deeply involved in his community. But it was also some of his words and expressions that we had come to appreciate in a different manner, and how he often misinterpreted phrases to express himself that were light hearted and humourous… so you might have caught him saying he “that’s the way the cooke rolls” instead of “crumbles, or singing a song as... “Keep your head on your shoulders…” instead of “Put your ahead on my shoulder…” They say you’re only young once but you’re old for a long long time - but Mathew was always young at heart, a dreamer, a believer, a fighter to his final breath. "We miss you dad." Peace and Love :) Friends may call at PINE HILLS CEMETERY & FUNERAL CENTRE, 625 Birchmount Rd., Scarborough (north of St. Clair Ave. E., 416-267-8229) on Sunday, May 1st from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and Monday, May 2nd from 10 - 11 a.m. with the funeral service at 11 a.m. Interment to follow.
