Mary Toy Lee
December 28, 1921 - November 8, 2013
Lee: Mary Toy (née Wong)
Mary passed away peacefully the morning of Friday November 8, 2013 in her 92nd year. She was predeceased by her husband James Bing Lee. She leaves her three daughters Carol (John) Hildebrand, Joan (William) Virtue, Marilyn (Kennedy) Wang, and her grandchildren Arthur, Richard, Sarah and Lindsay. Cherished great grandmother of Evan, Tyler, Vincent and Rose.
Mary also leaves her youngest sister, Jessie Proctor. She was predeceased by brothers George and Hastings Wong and their wives Margery and Lillian, sisters Lillian Hing and Rose Ma and their husbands Toi and James, and brother-in-law Clifford Proctor.
Mary was born in Belleville Ontario in 1921 and the family moved to Lakefield during the Depression. She and her siblings made a mark in Lakefield capturing all the honours for their high grades. She met and married "Jimmy" in Peterborough moving to Port Colborne where she raised three girls. Not content to sit back after sending each girl off to university in Toronto, she went to work in the local library as the chief book purchaser and cataloguer. Once retired she and Jimmy moved to Thornhill to be close to the girls and grandchildren. Later in life, she took up residence at Amica at Bayview where she was best known for her quiet and gentle nature yet with a fierce desire of independence.
The family gives special thanks to Mary Howard and the staff at Amica at Bayview. The dedicated care of Maria, Khazel, Lorna and Marietta of Mosaic Health Care was much appreciated. Heartfelt thanks to Jennifer G. whose kindness and gentle voice brought much comfort to Mrs. Lee.
The family extends their deep gratitude to Dr. Jeffery Chin and to North York General Hospital especially to Dr. Michael Quejada, and to two very caring paramedics of the Metro Toronto Ambulance Service.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to North York General Hospital Foundation, the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
