<div itemprop="description">MARY ELIZABETH CHACKERIS <br />It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Mary Chackeris (nee Chase), after a lengthy illness, on October 17, 2013, at the age of 78, surrounded by family, at North York General Hospital. Mary leaves behind William Chackeris, her devoted husband of 57 years. Mary is the cherished mother of Peter (Julie) and Pamela (Michael Rooks), and the much-loved Nana of Tamara, Daniel and Margo. Born in Sutton, Ontario and raised in Toronto, Mary was the only daughter of the late George and Emma (Smissen) Chase. In 1959, William and Mary made the new community of Don Mills their lifelong home. Mary was a founding member of the Church of Our Saviour and an active member of the ACW all her life. For Mary, all her efforts were devoted to her family, church and community. Mary spent many years volunteering for the Red Cross, Thompson House and with the North York General Hospital Auxiliary. Mary was a fabulous cook and baker, she loved to garden, and summers were filled with fresh produce &ldquo;just picked&rdquo;. Always an active person, Mary participated in a variety of sports, square dancing, and bridge with the neighbourhood ladies. Family and friends are invited to a memorial service on Saturday, October 26th at 12 noon at the Church of Our Saviour located at 1 Laurentide Drive, Don Mills, Ontario.There will be a visitation at 11:00 am at the church prior to the service and a reception will immediately follow the service in the Guild Room at the church. Special thanks to the staff, nurses and doctors on 8 West at NYGH for their care and compassion.
