Marjorie Agnes Sandiford

Marjorie Sandiford (nee Thornbury), daughter of Anna Cameron and Thomas Thornbury, passed away peacefully at Dorothy Ley Hospice (Toronto) on January 18, 2014, in her 90th year.

Marjorie was the beloved wife of the late Leonard Sandiford. She was mother to Stephen and his wife Violette, Cathy, and Paul and his wife Leanne, and a proud Gramma to Patrick and his wife Yuliana, Anne, Julien, Greg, Danielle and Michele and great grandmother to baby Chloe. Marjorie was sister to Winnie and Lillian, sister-in-law to Alan, John, Ruth and Verna, and pre-deceased by siblings Edith, Thomas, Bert, George, Mary-Ellen, Betty, Edna, Clarence, Jack, Billy, Ross and Eva. She was adored Aunt Marj to over seventy nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

Marjorie was at the heart of a loving extended family of which she was very proud, grounded in Victoria Country with pioneer roots to back Ireland and Scotland. In the 1940s, she made her way from the family farm in Eldon Township to Toronto, eventually settling in Mississauga, but she always remained deeply attached to her roots and happy memories of rural life in simpler times, and to her large and loving extended family in “the country”. She enjoyed her beautiful home and garden, her cottage in Fenelon Falls and her loving family, friends and neighbours until the end. She let not a day go by without treasuring her blessings and sharing her gifts. A warm and energetic presence, she had an infinite capacity for giving and caring. Marjorie was an inspiration to all who had the good fortune to know her. She will remain alive forever in our hearts.

A private celebration of life will be held in Woodville, Ontario in the spring.

As expressions of sympathy, donations can be made to The Dorothy Ley Hospice (www.dlhospice.org) or a charity of your choice.
