Marjorie Irene Harfield Ellis Reid, affectionately known as “Nana,” “Grandma,” and “Mom,” passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at the age of 101. She drew her last breath at 9:12 p.m. in the ICU at Humber River Hospital in Toronto, Ontario, holding the hand of her granddaughter, Leahanne.
Born in Toronto on August 6, 1925, Marjorie lived a remarkably long, full life. A fiercely independent woman, she lived in her own apartment up until the age of 94 before moving to the Humber Heights retirement community, maintaining her independence right up until June of this year.
Following a fall in June, Marjorie fought hard to recover and was able to return home in August. Unfortunately, shortly after, she faced emergency surgery. While her strong spirit carried her through the procedure, her 101-year-old body was unable to recover.
Her final days were beautifully filled with phone calls and visits from those who loved her most. In her true Marjorie spirit, at the end of the day nearing the end, she said “All things considered, today was a nice day dear.”
Marjorie was a loyal and devout Christian who found her true spiritual home and community at Capstone Church. To describe her in a few words is almost impossible, but she will forever be remembered for a faith that never wavered and an unconditional love for her family and friends.
The biggest Blue Jays fan, and even in her final days she wanted to know how “her team” was doing. Her love of reading, most certainly contributed to a sharp mind, quick wit and clarity right until the very end.
She was predeceased by her first love and husband, John "Hoot" Ellis; her second husband, Edward Reid; her son, Micheal (Heather); and her infant daughter, Patricia.
Marjorie’s legacy of love lives on through her surviving family. She was the cherished mother of Chris and step-mother of Paul (Gail). She was the proud grandmother of Leahanne (Dan), Lesley (Chuck), Elizabeth (Adam), David, and Robert; and the adored great-grandmother of Clayton, Riley, Sarah, Sammy, Emmet, and Hartley.
A service to celebrate Marjorie’s extraordinary life will be held at Capstone Church, 763 Royal York Road, Toronto, on Thursday, September 17, 2026.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., with a service following at 11:00 a.m. All family and friends are warmly welcome to join us for a reception following the service.
