We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beautiful mother, Marjorie Joan Clarke, on July 29, 2026, in Fergus, Ontario, at the age of 93.
Born in Toronto in 1933, Marjorie was a devoted mother to Tracey Clarke-Rankine and Andy Rankine, Christy and Robert Temple, and Kathleen Clarke. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Glen.
She will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Alexander and Sara, Aynsley and Jason, Heather and Mark, and Stephen, as well as her great-grandchildren, Lachlan, Zoe, and Cameryn.
Marjorie also leaves behind her dear sister, Lynda McCall. She was predeceased by her brothers, Gerald and Bob Sparks, and her parents, Bertha and Alfred Sparks.
Marjorie lived a life grounded in curiosity, compassion, and justice. In their youth, she and Glen were active in the peace movement, and they remained lifelong advocates for workers' rights, racial justice, and equality for women. A proud "lefty," Marjorie encouraged her daughters to stand firmly for fairness and dignity. She worked at the Bell Telephone Company until her retirement in 1990, championing her coworkers as a union steward.
Marjorie found joy in creative endeavours such as sewing, knitting, quilting, rug hooking, embroidery, and tatting. She was also an avid reader who could never be kept supplied with books for long.
We are profoundly grateful to the staff of Wellington Terrace Long-Term Care and Groves Memorial Hospital, and especially to Dr. Stickney, for their exceptional care and kindness.
Marjorie's calm presence, fierce devotion, and generous spirit shaped our lives. She leaves a legacy of courage, curiosity, a commitment to justice, and unconditional love.Friends and family are invited to a memorial service on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at noon at York Cemetery (160 Beecroft Rd. North York, Ontario, 416-221-3404) followed by fellowship and refreshments from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Arrangements entrusted to Henry Walser Funeral Home.
