In memory of

Marjorie Catherine (nee Abernethy) Dobbie

June 5, 1930 - February 11, 2026

Peacefully at home, in her 96th year. Affectionately known as Marj to family and friends. Mum and Grandma were special titles she treasured. Devoted and loving mother of Karen (Daly). Cherished and supportive grandmother of Daniel (Laura) and Meredith. Reunited with the love of her life, William (Bill), who predeceased her in 2018, after a long and happy union, spanning 62 years. Also predeceased by parents Emily and Edward Abernethy; and sisters, Eileen and Dorothy. Aunt Marj was dearly loved and will be fondly remembered by Laura and David McClymont (Dunblane, Scotland) and their extended family.

Marj grew up and attended school in East York. She excelled in math and loved numbers. She played baseball at Christie Pits in her teens, and never lost her enthusiasm and love for all sports. She was a swimmer, golfer, cross-country skier and bowler. Marj was a passionate lifelong fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Blue Jays, following games and results faithfully. She and Bill enjoyed Saturday night hockey games at Maple Leaf Gardens, during their courtship. Until recently, she was the most informed hockey and baseball sports analyst in the room. Marj worked at Loblaws and Canada Life before devoting her life as a supportive wife, homemaker, mother and grandmother. She and Bill enjoyed happy retirement years in Sand Key, Florida, and cheering on Daniel and Meredith in all their school, sports, university and career endeavours. Although many dearly loved family and friends have gone before her, Marj (and Bill) was blessed with decades long friendships, now expanded into second and third generations, across many places throughout Ontario, and further, from coast to coast in Canada, in Florida, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Mum and Grandma remained sharp, engaged and deeply dedicated to her family until her passing. She was fiercely loved and returned her love to us, immeasurably. She will be remembered for her remarkable memory, quiet strength, determination, hard work, no matter the task at hand, always in good spirits.

Respecting Marj’s wishes, there will be no visitation or service. Private family cremation and interment at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to North York General Hospital (nyghfoundation.ca) would be appreciated. Special thanks to staff and residents at The Donway, together with Dr. Jennifer Arvanitis and the Temmy Latner Palliative Care Team.
