Marion Dianah Bottomley, 96, of Bayfield Ontario, passed away peacefully at Blue Water Rest Home on January 19, 2013. She will be greatly missed by her loving children, Judith Higgs, Janet Davenport, Kirk and Brian Smith and her extended family including 12 grandchildren and great granchildren. Marion survived her sister Norma Weir, brother Ron Haldenby and three husbands during the course of her lifetime - Dr. H. Ward Smith, founder of the Centre of Forensic Sciences, William Woods and James Bottomley. Born on June 5th ,1916 to Norman and Jessie (Kirkup) Haldenby, Marion Lived in St. Mary's, London, Toronto, Port Perry, North Vancouver and Bayfield. Marion blessed this world with her laughter and radiant smile. Her charm, beauty and quiet graciousness touched everyone around her. She always kept in touch with everyone who was fortunate enough to connect with her. Over the years, as her tattered address book gradually became an epitaph for outlived friends, she found space for new entries and kept the postal service busy with birthday card greetings to her ever-growing family. An endearing and old-fashioned pride relegated her own birthdays to a whisper but she was deluged with Christmas cards and later with 'get well' cards from her network of friends when frailty finally became an unwelcome companion on her long journey. Until very recently, Marion's feisty spirit, fueled her increasingly diminuitive frame and thumbed its nose at her age. She drove her car, maintained her home, played a good game of bridge and diligently attended exercise classes. She loved to 'hang out' with younger people who didn't talk about their aches and pains. For all of us, throughout the years, Marion's daily sense of adventure and excitement was a beacon - a celebration of the gift of life itself will take place on Sunday, January 27, 2013 from 1 - 2 PM where the family will be accepting Visitors until service time at 2 PM which will be in turn followed by Interment all from York Cemetery & visitation Centre. She will be greatly missed. There will be a celebration of life service for Marion in Bayfield, Ontario at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to her lifetime designated charity - the Canadian Cancer Foundation, The Salvation Army or The Alexander Marine & General Hospital Foundation.
