Maria Eratostene
December 8, 1929 - December 8, 2015
Passed away peacefully at home on her 86th birthday Tuesday, December 8th, 2015. Beloved wife of the late Italo. Loving and devoted mother of Joseph and Patrick and mother-in-law to Artemis and Fe. Sadly missed by her grandchildren Italo, Peter, Philip and Melissa. Maria will be known for being extremely kind and sharing, with a generous heart. She will also be known as a very feisty lady, and didn’t mind letting you know. She loved music and will be remembered for her exceptional dancing in her home town of Genova as well as in her second home at Vezanno Ligure, Italia. Her singing voice, on the other hand, was a different matter.
Maria was predeceased by her mother, Gina, who Maria could have been mistaken as a twin in her later years, and her father, Giuseppe, who Maria got many of her character traits from.
She had very close and personal relationships with the late Franca Luminoso and family, the late Roberto and Betty Grandolfo and family, Politime Zegas and family, and many others, including her cousins in Italy, all of whom have been touched by her giving nature.
She was also known as being an exquisite cook, and had won contests for culinary arts. She will be remembered around the neighborhood as the ‘little old Italian lady that kept her driveway and street swept clean’.
Visitation will be held at the PINE HILLS VISITATION CENTRE, 625 Birchmount Road (at St. Clair Ave. E.), Toronto, 416-267-8229 on Saturday, December 12th from 12:30 p.m. until the time of Funeral Service at 2:30 p.m. Interment to follow. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society.
