Maria-Catalina Losner, 79, passed peacefully into Our Lord’s Kingdom on January 5, 2026 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. She had been supported and soothed by her good friends and passed with her wonderful PSW Jennifer and her nephew Daniel by her side.
Ina, as she was affectionately known, was born on August 13, 1946 in Fagaras, Brasov, Romania, the beloved daughter of Marin and Maria Branescu. After moving to Bucharest and completing high school, Ina successfully graduated with honours from the prestigious National Faculty of Medicine. During her university years, Ina met the charismatic and talented architecture student Vladimir “Vova” Losner, the man who would become her loyal and loving husband.
No longer willing to have their bright minds and honest souls kept hostage by a repressive regime, Ina and Vova left Romania for Italy, and eventually chose Canada as their new home. It is here, in the City of Toronto, that they set their roots, and built not only highly respected careers but also extraordinary bonds with equally extraordinary people.
Outside of her work in the field of medicine, Ina found great joy in art, reading, traveling, building friendships with like-minded people, and in caring for animals. Ina was defined by her extraordinary hunger for knowledge, her deep appreciation for arts and culture, her unbreakable loyalty towards family and friends, and the overwhelming love she had for pets and animals.
Those who knew Ina will always remember her for her genuine smile, her honesty, her devotion, and her willingness to help others no matter the cost. She was a beacon of warm kindness in an oft-cruel world, a woman of extraordinary moral quality, and an example of a life lived with purpose, grace, and dignity.
To honor Ina’s life and memory is not only to cherish all the moments we spent with her, but to try our best and live by the values that she embodied.
The memorial service will be officiated by Father Ted Porfirios, in accordance with the Greek Orthodox rite.
