Mrs. Margaret Sarpkaya (née Angus) passed away in her home in the early morning of Sunday, April 3rd, 2016. Daughter of Thomas and Florence Angus, and sister of Tom and David Angus, Margaret was born on August 17th, 1936 in Lynemouth, England. During the Second World War, the family was relocated to London, where Margaret eventually became an international track and field athlete. At the age of 20 she met and fell in love with Süleyman Sarpkaya. They married October 1st, 1956 and moved to Canada in 1960 where they, with their 2 children, eventually made their home in Don Mills. A devoted wife and mother, Margaret supported her husband’s academic and professional career as his business partner, most trusted advisor, best friend and love of his life. They were married for 51 years, until his passing in 2007.

Margaret had a Geography Degree from the University of London and a Horticultural Diploma from the Ontario Agricultural College in Guelph. She volunteered her time as track & field coach with North York Track & Field Association, as horticultural advisor at the Ontario Science Centre and, in her latter years, as French instructor at the Don Mills Better Living Centre. She loved reading, gardening, opera, tennis and travel. Leaving behind her daughter Christina, her son Errol (Oriana), and three granddaughters, Jacinta (Brandon), Andreia and Rosalind, she will be fondly remembered by family and friends for her vivacious spirit and scintillating sense of humour.

We wish to express our gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff at North York General Hospital and to the staff and associates of the Community Care Access Centre for their kind and excellent support in making Margaret's wish to spend her final days in her home possible.

A celebration of Margaret’s life will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at the Simple Alternatives Funeral Centre, 275 Lesmill Road, North York. Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm, with memorial service at 2:00 pm followed by a reception. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared online at www.mountpleasantgroup.com.
