In memory of

Marcian Steinwall

January 10, 1935 -  March 27, 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marcian Steinwall, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. Marcian was born on January 10, 1935, in Colombo, Sri Lanka, and passed away peacefully in the early morning of March 27 at the Belmont Long Term Care Facility in Belleville, Ontario.
Marcian leaves behind his devoted wife of 60 years, Yvonne Steinwall. He was the cherished father of his daughters Candy Dobbin and Jackie Steinwall, and son-in-law Glenn Dobbin. A loving grandfather to Ryan, Michelle, Adam, Jack and Jayden, and a proud great-grandfather to Ava. He is also survived by his dear sister Norma, and three brothers, Ronnie (Australia), Annesley, and Stan. Marcian will be fondly remembered by his sisters-in-law, numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Professionally, Marcian was a dedicated and esteemed employee at Griffiths Laboratories for over 25 years, during which time he made numerous significant contributions and was highly respected by his colleagues.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all the staff at the Belmont Long Term Care Facility in Belleville for the exceptional care and compassion they provided to Marcian during his time at the facility and in his final days.
Marcian’s viewing and celebration of life will be held on Sunday, May 4th, at the Thornton Cemetery Cremation and Funeral Centres, located at 1200 Thornton Rd N, Oshawa ON L1J 0C9. The viewing will take place at 10:00 a.m., and the celebration of life at 11:00 a.m. A reception will follow the celebration of life at the Thornton Cemetery Cremation and Funeral Centres.
Marcian had lived with dementia for many years, so instead of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Society in honor of Marcian Steinwall: Alzheimer Society of Canada.
Marcian will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his memory will live on in the hearts of his loved ones forever. Marcian lived his life like his favourite song: “You have to know when to hold them, know when to fold them, know when to walk away and know when to run” (The Gambler).
