It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Malcolm Errol Cuthwin James Sr., who passed away peacefully at The Village Retirement Home in Hanover, on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at the age of 88.
Malcolm was born on March 30, 1937, on the beautiful island of St. Vincent and the Grenadines; he was the youngest child and only son of Hubert Clifford James and Josephine Leanora Dublin-James (pre-deceased). He was also pre-deceased by his first daughter, Leslie James, three of his sisters, Effie, Beatrice, Iris and two brothers, Ulric and Allington.
At the age of 19, Malcolm immigrated to England, where he trained and became a certified electrician. During this time, he met and married, Magnola John and together they built a family. In 1965, Malcolm immigrated with his family to Canada, settling in Toronto, where he began a long and dedicated career with Bruce Nuclear. He remained with the organization until his retirement in the late 1990’s. In 1977, the family moved to Hanover, a place Malcolm quickly knew would be his forever home, where he lived for 48 years.
Malcolm was deeply committed to his community and gave generously of his time. He was a proud member of both the Freemasons & the Rotary Club, as well as District Commissioner for the Boy Scouts of Canada, where he built lasting friendships and made meaningful contributions.
Malcolm will be lovingly remembered by his children, Charmaine Robotham (Garfield), Malcolm James Jr. (Jodi), and Andrew James (Debbie), his sister Gwendoline James, his seven grandchildren—Shanice, Joshua, Hayden, Kiera, Sereena, Hannah, and Reese, and his six great-grandchildren. Also remembered by his many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Malcolm will be remembered for his strong work ethic, quiet leadership, devotion to family, and unwavering love for his home town of Hanover, ON. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
