On the warm evening of May 17, 2026, Mabel Lynn Wong, in her 100th year, passed away peacefully. With her daughter Nancy and son Eric by her side, she knew it was time to take her rest.
Mabel was the beloved sibling of May and Tom, both of whom also lived long and full lives. And “Mabel” was a nickname given by her mother—one she didn’t particularly prefer, but one her family cherished. “Hey Mabel,” we would call, and she always answered, knowing it was said with love.
A registered nurse by training, Mabel was proud to be a Women’s College Hospital or WCH graduate, joining the nursing profession in 1950. Even in recent years, whenever she needed medical care, she would proudly tell the hospital staff that she was a registered nurse. The nurses who cared for her were always delighted to have a fellow nurse as their patient.
Mabel now reunites with her beloved husband, Peter, who passed away in 1998—far too soon.
We will miss Mabel dearly. She will forever be remembered as a strong, resilient, and gentle woman whose greatest joy was her family, friends and caregivers. Her love, warmth and spirit will continue to live on in all who knew her.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation and service at York Funeral Centre on May 27, 2026.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honour Mabel are encouraged to consider a donation to the Alzheimer Society of Peel.
