With love, gratitude, and deep sorrow, we share the passing of Lydia Nilo, who left this world peacefully on December 5, 2025. She was 84 years old.
Lydia lived a life defined by kindness, resilience, and unwavering devotion to her family. A retired Grade 2 teacher, she dedicated many years to shaping young minds with patience, gentleness, and a quiet strength that made her beloved by her students and colleagues alike.
Lydia’s greatest legacy was the love she poured into her family. When her eldest grandchild was only two years old, she became his full time caregiver while his mother worked abroad. Through her own sacrifices, hard work, and determination, she ensured her children and grandchildren had access to education and opportunity. She helped send them to university through sheer perseverance; a gift that changed the course of their lives and remains at the heart of how she will be remembered.
In 2012, Lydia travelled abroad for the first time to visit her family. She explored Toronto, many parts of Canada, and several cities across the United States. These experiences brought her incredible happiness; new places, new memories, and time spent with loved ones. She returned home during the winter months, always coming back during the summer, eager to be with family again.
Lydia also deeply loved simple joys: quiet days at home, moments by the beach, and long conversations with those close to her. One of her happiest pastimes was playing Tong it with her dear friends Fe Nanquil, Mareng Kareng, and Ate Glo. The laughter and companionship they shared meant the world to her.
A caring mother to her daughter Mergere Nilo-Neypes and her husband, Kowalsky Roy Neypes, and her son, Samuel Casiano Nanquil. Treasured grandmother of Duanne Cedrick Nilo and Kowalsky Roy II Neypes. Lydia is lovingly remembered by her half sister Geronima Casiano, husband Ricardo Vasques, and their children Gemma, Joshua, and Samantha. She cherished the warmth and closeness of her extended family in Toronto, including nephew Dan and his wife Au, their children Mark and Ariane, and grandson Baby Alexander.
To her family, Lydia was a guiding light, steady, strong, loving, and endlessly generous. Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. Lydia’s life was a testament to love, sacrifice, and the beauty of caring for others. Her lessons, her laughter, and her unwavering devotion will continue to inspire her family each day.
We honour her life, her legacy, and the immeasurable love she leaves behind.
