Lorna Prokaska
December 20, 1926 - November 14, 2011
PROKASKA, Lorna Catherine(nee Main) ---
Born December 20, 1926 in Allan Hills, Saskatchewan. Died November 14, 2011 in Toronto. Lorna was loved and will be missed by her daughters Lee (Gary), Jane, Anne (Lui), Beth and honourary daughter Marion. She was a loving Gramma Lo to Seana, Heather, Fiona and Andrea. Lorna also leaves her dear sister Isobel (Lawrence), and nieces and nephews James, Joyce, Donald and Heather and their families. She will also be missed by the many good friends she nurtured over the years.
Lorna attended the University of Saskatchewan and graduated from Saskatoon Normal School (later called Saskatoon Teachers College) and Brandon College (now Brandon University). Her earlier work life included teaching in a one-room prairie schoolhouse, instructing physical education classes at the Brandon YM/YWCA, and coordinating Agincourt Community Services. She was also very proud to serve for many years as a Legislative Assistant in the New Democratic Party caucus at Queens Park. Lorna was a committed community activist, an avid Saskatchewan Roughrider and Toronto Blue Jays fan, a former basketball player and speed skater, a music lover, always up for a party, and a woman of strong principles and ethics.
Sincere gratitude to the many staff at the Belmont House who cared for and befriended Lorna, and who were devoted to bringing her comfort. In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates donations to the Belmont House Foundation (55 Belmont St., Toronto) or a charity of your choice.
Cremation has taken place. Arrangements entrusted to Simple Alternative, Toronto. Please see www.etouch.ca . A party will be planned in the future to celebrate Lornas life.
