Li Yan Sum Lau, lovingly known to many as Anita, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2025, in Markham, Ontario, just one day shy of her 74th birthday.
Born and raised in Hong Kong, Anita immigrated to Canada and called Markham home for 35 years. Widowed to her beloved husband, Albert Chi Choi Lau, she fully devoted herself to raising her son Philip Lau—doing so single-handedly with unshakable dedication, she worked as a sewing machine operator to provide for her family.
Anita was known for her boundless love and selflessness; she truly believed “Making others happy is what makes me happy.” She consistently placed the needs of others above her own, and her caring nature left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.
She is survived by her son Philip Lau, daughter-in-law Sharon Zhang, and her treasured granddaughters Giselle and Kaitlyn, who will always remember her as a warm, loving grandmother—and a phenomenal cook whose meals brought the family together.
Anita also shared a close bond with her sisters Monica Lee, Paula Tsui, and Sarah Ng. The sisters shared many joyful adventures and travels, creating memories that will be cherished forever.
Anita's kindness, resilience, and unwavering dedication to her family will never be forgotten.
