Leonard Hutton Smith, most commonly known as Lenny, reached the milestone age of 70 before peacefully passing on May 1, 2026.
Born on May 29, 1955, in St. Mary, Jamaica, Lenny was one of fourteen children, the beloved son of the late Leslie and Hyolin Smith. He spent his early years in Jamaica, raised by his parents and his grandmother, Nini. Growing up in the countryside, Lenny found joy in simple pleasures—climbing trees, enjoying the abundance of fruit in his yard, and embracing the freedom of island life.
A bright and capable student, Lenny successfully completed both primary and high school and was accepted into college. However, driven by a deep sense of responsibility, he chose to leave his studies to work as a driver for a bakery, helping to provide for his family and young children. During this time, he met the love of his life in Jamaica, and together they married and later migrated to Canada in his mid-twenties in pursuit of greater opportunity.
Building a new life in Canada came with its challenges, but Lenny’s resilience and determination carried him through. He eventually discovered his passion in the trades and became a hardworking entrepreneur, operating his own carpet installation business for over 25 years.
A devoted provider, Lenny took great pride in caring for his family. He was a loving yet firm father—a disciplinarian who led with strength, wisdom, and heart.
Known for his vibrant spirit, Lenny was truly a social butterfly. He had a generous nature and never turned anyone away in times of need. His home was always open, often filled with the warmth of Sunday dinners and lively BBQ gatherings. He cherished time spent with family and friends, especially when it included music, dominos, laughter, and reminiscing about good times back home.
Lenny leaves behind a legacy of love through his seven children: George Smith, Leonard Smith Jr., Alfred Scott, Keisha Smith, Evon Smith, Kevin Smith, and Trisha Smith. He is also survived by 30 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, Jireh Smith, as well as five brothers and six sisters.
