It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Lauri on October 6, 2012, just shy of her 49th birthday.
After a valiant struggle with cancer that she faced with courage, grace, and humour, Lauri passed away surrounded by her loving family. Lauri is the dearly loved daughter of Roger and Diane Pugh, cherished sister to Debbie Pugh of BC and Janice Cowen (Troy) of Milton, Ontario. Loving and doting auntie to Emma and Brett. Devoted “second mom” to Derek and Randall Legere. Fondly called “la la” by her favourite kids. Lauri will be greatly missed by her aunt, uncles, and cousins in the Frazer, Chelew, Drake, Desjardins, and Shears families. She was predeceased by her grandparents Clare and Leah Pugh of Toronto and Bill and Vera Slade of Belleville as well as her aunts, Joan Chelew of Waterloo and Heather Drake of Kitchener.
Lauri was a dedicated and gifted teacher with the Peel Board of Education since 1987, teaching at Tomken Rd. S.P.S., Riverside P.S., Tecumseh P.S., Streetsville S.S., and Applewood Hts. S.S. where she touched many lives.
Lauri received amazing support from her extended family, friends, and colleagues throughout her illness. The cards, gifts, flowers, and phone calls were greatly appreciated.
We wish to thank her doctors and many caregivers who provided such quality care , including Dr. Gapski and the wonderful oncology team at Trillium Health Centre W., CCAC, St. Elizabeth Nurses especially Linda, Marie, and Lia, Pro Home PSW’s, especially Halima and Miriam, and Dr. L. Mavrogiannis (Dr. “M”) of Toronto Grace Health Centre for your support and wonderful care and attention the final few months. Finally a special thank you to the Dorothy Ley Hospice for your love, support and excellent care of not only Lauri, but of her whole family – you are truly an amazing group of people.
Cremation has taken place. As per Lauri’s very specific wishes, there will be a celebration of her life at her “Retirement Party” to be held at a later date. She wants all of her family, friends, colleagues, and former students to come and share their memories and eat, drink, and party.
No flowers please, but as an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to The Dorothy Ley Hospice, 220 Sherway Dr., Toronto Ontario, M9C 0A7 or to any children’s charity.
