It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Laura Marie Johnson (Nielsen) on June 6, 2026, in Toronto, at the age of 98. Born in Vig,Denmark on November 5, 1927, Laura brought her warm heart, resilience, and vibrant spirit to everything she did.

Laura dedicated her life to the care of others through her career as a Registered Nurse, touching countless lives with her compassion and expertise. She retired from Michael Garron Hospital paediatric unit in 1992. Her retirement years were incredibly active. She participated in many Danish functions (eg. opening ceremonies for Oresund Bridge in Denmark/Sweden and Danish Canadian Museum, unveiling the Danish plaque at Pier 21-Haifax). Other travels took Laura to many sporting events. She eventually achieved the oldest female to complete the half marathon in Antarctica. She travelled to all seven continents.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Karl (born Jorgen Vagn Stamer Michelsen); her brother, Ejnar Nielsen; and her sister, Ingrid (Arthur) Andersen.

Laura’s greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her three children, Karen, Eric, Paul (Natalie) and step-son Robert (Kay); her cherished grandchildren, Tyler, Ryder, Bryden, and Maveryck, who will deeply miss their Farmor's energy and love; and step grandchildren Jody and Lori and her loving sister, Gerda Hansen and sister-in-law Jytte Nielsen. By her extended family in Denmark: Lars, Claus (Anita), Hanne (Johnny), Vagn, Kurt, Marian (Peder), Bjarne, (Siv), Rene (Vibe), Albert, Asta, Vivi (Patrick), Mattie, Lucca. She will be sadly missed by all who that knew her. A funeral service to celebrate Laura's life will be held on June 19, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Danish Lutheran Church of Toronto. Any donations can be given to the Danish Lutheran Church of Toronto.
