It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Kyle Nicol Stewart on June 28th, 2026, after a brief period of illness.

Kyle is reunited with his beloved wife, Elena Tanzi, who passed away in November 2024 after a lengthy illness. Throughout her journey, Kyle remained by her side with unwavering love, strength, and devotion, a testament to the remarkable bond they shared.

He will be forever loved and deeply missed by his mother, Rita Stewart, and was predeceased by his father, Ronald Stewart, currently residing in Milton, Ontario.

Kyle leaves behind his loving siblings, Ronald (Michelle) Stewart, Shirley Ann (Pat) Bracken, and brother-in-law Rab Picken, husband of his late sister, Elaine. He is also lovingly remembered by his chosen brother, Colin McPherson, whose friendship was one of the great constants in his life.

Kyle was a proud and devoted uncle to Airikka, Kagan, Calum, and Arran, and found immeasurable joy in his role as "Papa" to Pherson and Emmie, who brought endless smiles to his face. During his 20 years with Elena, Kyle also came to love her family as his own and treasured the many relationships they shared.
He will also be fondly remembered by Nahid, whose companionship brought happiness and comfort during the later chapter of his life.

Kyle dedicated more than two decades of service to the Government of Canada, where he was respected by colleagues for his knowledge, integrity, and willingness to help others. Beyond his career, he was deeply committed to Freemasonry and was a long-standing member and Past Master of York Lodge No. 156, where he formed lifelong friendships and served his Lodge with pride, humility, and distinction.

A gifted and passionate bagpiper, Kyle devoted much of his life to mastering his craft. Countless weekends were spent at Highland Games across Ontario and beyond, where he forged lifelong friendships and earned the respect of the piping community. His dedication was recognized when he was awarded Champion Supreme and Amateur Drum Major of the Year, achievements of which he was immensely proud. Kyle went on to serve as Drum Major of the TTC Pipe Band and later the Peel Regional Police Pipe Band before returning to his first love of piping as Pipe Major of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 66. Whether leading a parade, competing on the field, or simply sharing his love of Scottish tradition, Kyle's passion for piping remained a defining part of his life.

Those who knew Kyle will remember his quick wit, generous heart, fun natured spirit, and unwavering loyalty to the people he cared about. He never met a stranger and had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel like an old friend. His infectious laugh, mischievous sense of humour, and willingness to lend a helping hand left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. Whether offering advice, sharing a story, or simply making those around him smile, Kyle had a way of bringing people together and making life a little brighter.

Kyle's family extends their sincere gratitude to the physicians, nurses, and staff at North York General Hospital for the compassionate care they provided during his illness, and to Dr. Jeffrey Chin for his kindness and dedication.

He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever carried in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

In keeping with Kyle's wishes, he has been cremated. At a later date, his family will travel to Glen Coe, Scotland, where his ashes will be scattered alongside those of his father, Ronald, in a place that held deep meaning for him and his family.

Family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate Kyle's life, honour his legacy, and share cherished memories during the visitation and funeral service. In recognition of Kyle's many years of dedicated service to Freemasonry, the service will include the Masonic Funeral Rite, a tribute befitting a respected Brother and Past Master of York Lodge No. 156.
