In Loving Memory

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Kwok Man Wong surrounded by family on March 9, 2025.

Born in Hong Kong in 1940, Kwok Man emigrated alone at 15 years old sailing for months to join his father who was a farmer in Rhodesia, now known as Zimbabwe. At the age of 19 with the death of his father he took on the role of a provider for his mother, grandmother and the addition of a younger brother, working on his Kopje Tea Room business. In 1972 he married Mei Ken and together they raised two children, working long hours at the shop. Through the civil war and resultant economic crisis in Zimbabwe, Kwok Man and Mei Ken emigrated to Canada with their two children in 1990. Working many blue-collar jobs, Kwok Man and Mei Ken both ensured their two children had the opportunity to attend university and provided stability to enable their success.

At his retirement, Kwok Man took joy in his paper newspapers, Elvis music, TV shows, Sudoku puzzles, Mei’s wonderful cooking, and with time, being part of the lives of his five grandchildren. Over the years, he travelled back to Hong Kong and Zimbabwe to visit familiar haunts, and had the opportunity to see family and friends in Singapore, South Africa, Australia, Brazil, England, China and the United States. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, quick wit, his calculator brain, his strong belief in family, and his love and affection for his wife of 53 years.

Kwok Man leaves behind his loving family: wife Mei Ken, daughter Celina, son- in- law Kevin, and their sons Jonathan, Ethan, and Jason, son Chris and his children Aidan and Zoe, and Kwok Man’s younger brother Danny.
