In Loving Memory

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Kwok Man Wong surrounded by family on March 9, 2025.

Born in Hong Kong in 1940, Kwok Man emigrated alone at 15 years old sailing for months to join his father who was a farmer in Rhodesia, now known as Zimbabwe. At the age of 19 with the death of his father he took on the role of a provider for his mother, grandmother and the addition of a younger brother, working on his Kopje Tea Room business. In 1972 he married Mei Ken and together they raised two children, working long hours at the shop. Through the civil war and resultant economic crisis in Zimbabwe, Kwok Man and Mei Ken emigrated to Canada with their two children in 1990. Working many blue-collar jobs, Kwok Man and Mei Ken both ensured their two children had the opportunity to attend university and provided stability to enable their success.

At his retirement, Kwok Man took joy in his paper newspapers, Elvis music, TV shows, Sudoku puzzles, Mei’s wonderful cooking, and with time, being part of the lives of his five grandchildren. Over the years, he travelled back to Hong Kong and Zimbabwe to visit familiar haunts, and had the opportunity to see family and friends in Singapore, South Africa, Australia, Brazil, England, China and the United States. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, quick wit, his calculator brain, his strong belief in family, and his love and affection for his wife of 53 years.

Kwok Man leaves behind his loving family: wife Mei Ken, daughter Celina, son- in- law Kevin, and their sons Jonathan, Ethan, and Jason, son Chris and his children Aidan and Zoe, and Kwok Man’s younger brother Danny.

With grateful thanks to all of the wonderful staff from the 4th and 6th floors at the Toronto Grace Health Centre, for their exemplary care, kindness, empathy and compassion.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to The Salvation Army Toronto Grace Health Centre. https://www.torontograce.org/donate-to-tghc/

Gor gor, I am really going to miss you. Not even a chance to say goodbye. I was hoping to come over and introduce Sandra to you and the family. Thank you for all you did for Mum and I, and giving me the opportunity to build a financially secure life. I will never forget the sacrafices you and Mei Ken made for me. So long my Brother.

Ian Yin (Friend)

On behalf of the Yin family, I would like to extend our heartfelt condolences at the passing of Kwok Man. Back in time, he and Mei were firm friends of my parents, and I recall many family visits, when I was a schoolboy (I’m 70 now) in their homes in Southerton, Prospect, and Milton Park in Salisbury/Harare. By all accounts, Kwok Man was a man of great work and family values and his dedication has been demonstrated in the success of his children and grandchildren. Rest now, old friend.
