Konrad Martinec, 88, of Maple, Ontario, Canada peacefully passed away on May 12th, 2026 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.

Born the youngest of three brothers, on September 29th, 1937 in Murski Petrovci, Slovenia (former Yugoslavia) to Konrad and Veronica Martinec, he was a lively lovable boy who grew to be a lively lovable father, father-in-law, uncle and proud grandfather.

Konrad left Slovenia in the 1950s and immigrated to Alberta, Canada where he landed his first job as a waiter at the Banff Springs Hotel. Konrad later moved to Toronto, Ontario where he worked most of his career as the Maître D’ at Creighton’s in the Westbury Hotel. While in Toronto he met the love of his life Gwendolyn (nee Simmons) and had one daughter, Catherine. Konrad was extremely passionate about sports, hospitality and cooking.

Konrad was predeceased by his wife Gwendolyn in 1993 and leaves behind his loving daughter Catherine, son-in-law Rychard and his three beloved grandchildren, Matthew, Andrew, and Irelynna Gorny.

Services will be held starting at 1:00pm, May 23rd, 2026 at Elgin Mills Cemetery, Cremation and Funeral Centres, 1591 Elgin Mills Road East, Richmond Hill, ON.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Kristus Darzs Latvian Foundation in memory of Konrad Martinec
