Ken Pickering passed away at the age of 90 after a long and courageous battle with COPD. Loving husband of Nesta (née Hughes); devoted father to Glen (Debbie) and Linda; and cherished stepfather to Christine (Mark) and Bruce. He was a beloved grandfather to Sarah, Aidan, Kieran, and Kyle, and great-grandfather to Theo. Survived by his brother Russ (Doreen); predeceased by his first wife, Norma (née Smith).
Ken was happiest when surrounded by family - especially during holiday celebrations or backyard BBQs, cold beer in hand. A longtime Seven Oaks resident, he coached baseball and was one of the Stonefield “garagemen,” talking shop and solving the world’s problems. He loved golfing and socializing with friends, a tradition he carried south each winter as he and Nesta enjoyed being snowbirds. Ken also loved playing cards, bowling, and cheering on his Toronto teams.
He was proud of his career as an electrician with Smith & Long, a lifetime member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, and later an electrical inspector with Toronto Hydro.
Ken will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
Please join us in honoring him and celebrating his wonderful life—share memories, stories, a smile or simply your presence. We’d be honored to have you with us to celebrate the joy Ken brought to us all.
