It is with great sadness that the family of Kathleen (Kathy) Balfour Riley announces her sudden passing on July 27, 2026, at her home in Toronto.

Born in Hamilton, Ontario, Kathy grew up in Ottawa along with her sisters Martha and Mary. After completing her degree at Concordia University in Montreal, she moved to Toronto and began her career as a retail buyer for Eaton's and then Holt Renfrew.

In 1977 she married her husband Jim, and they were together 49 years until her passing.

Some of her happiest moments were spent with friends and family at their cottage on Lake Joseph. In Toronto, Kathy taught Sunday school for many years at St. John's church (York Mills) and generously volunteered with a variety of charitable organizations throughout her life.

Kathy will be remembered for her bright smile, quick wit, and unwavering kindness. She had a remarkable gift for making others feel welcome, valued, and cared for. Her empathy, compassion, and generosity touched the lives of all who knew her.

Above all, Kathy was devoted to her family. She found her greatest happiness in time spent with loved ones and took immense pride in her children and grandchildren. Her memory will be cherished always by those fortunate enough to have known and loved her.

Kathy is survived by her husband, Jim; her children, Kristina and Mathew; her grandsons, James and Jackson; her sister, Mary Crawford; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

A celebration of Kathy's life will be held at Mount Pleasant Funeral Centre on Saturday August 15th, 2026. Visitation to be held at 11:00 am, service to begin at 12:00 pm.
