Katherine Moore
June 7, 1955 - June 22, 2015
Katherine Moore (nee Schleissner)
June 7, 1955 – June 22, 2015
Katherine Ann Moore passed away peacefully in her home on June 22, 2015 after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Kathy is survived by her loving and devoted husband of over 35 years, Colin, her two adoring children, Sean (Marina) and Kristen, her parents, Hans and Hana, her aunt Dagmar and her sisters Kim Dudezki and Kelly Hilton. Kathy will be deeply missed by her cousins, nieces and nephews.
Kathy was raised in Burlington, Ontario. She spent winters at her family’s Collingwood chalet, and summer vacations in Muskoka. She was an avid skier, enjoyed playing field hockey and tennis and was dedicated to physical fitness.
In her adolescence and early adulthood she attended Hillfield Strathallan and graduated from the University of Western Ontario, where she met her husband and developed long lasting friendships. Following graduation, she moved to Toronto and began a career in accounting and retail management. However, her most important job was raising her family and being a stay at home mom. Kathy was extremely supportive of Colin’s career, which included relocations to Connecticut and Louisville, Kentucky.
Upon her return to Toronto, she spent many mornings at the Granite Club engaged in various fitness activities, followed by coffee and conversation. It was here where she formed additional friendships and learned about the “Love to Ski” group. With this group she skied locally, in the US and in Europe.
When not on the slopes, Kathy loved to travel, spend time at her cottage on Balsam Lake, and dine out with friends and family.
Our beloved Kathy will be remembered for her warm, gentle presence, her grace, calm wisdom and remarkable capacity to empathize with those in need. She was an exceptional mother, wife and friend. Her outward beauty and ready smile illuminated an inner beauty that was greatly admired. To know her was to love her.
Friends and family will be received at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery Visitation Centre, 375 Mount Pleasant Road, Toronto (east gate entrance North of St. Clair Ave., 416 485-5572) on Monday June 29 between 4 and 8 P.M. A service to commemorate Katherine’s life will be held in the Chapel on Tuesday, June 30 at 11 A.M., with a reception to follow on site. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Kathy’s name to a breast cancer foundation of your choice.
