<div itemprop="description">Kashinath Ghanekar passed away peacefully on August 2nd, 2015, at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. He is survived by his wife Meena (nee Pendharkar), sons Milind (Krista) and Anand (Jennifer), grandchildren Chaitan, Sharmila, Kiran and Divya, and siblings Shailaja Barve (Pune), Arvind Ghanekar (Hyderabad), Vidya Dixit (Pittsburgh), and Sudha Ghanekar (Pune). <br /> <br />Born in Aurangabad, India on January 19th, 1935, he travelled to the United States in 1959 where he completed his Ph.D. in Physics at Purdue University in Lafayette, Indiana. While in the U.S. he met and married Meena and moved to Ontario in 1968. After living in Hamilton and Lindsay, the family settled in the Greater Toronto Area in 1976 where he continued his career in applied solid state physics and microelectronics with high tech industrial firms including Magna International and Litton Systems. <br /> <br />He was very active in the Marathi community over the past four decades, serving in all executive and advisory positions of the Marathi Bhashik Mandal organization. He played a pivotal role in legally incorporating the Mandal and securing its status as a charitable organization. <br /> <br />Through his family life, professional activities and community involvement, he touched many lives. He will be remembered for his kindness, patience, integrity, modesty, and sense of humor, and will be deeply missed. <br /> <br />The family requests that any donations in memory of Kashinath Ghanekar be directed to &quot;The Palliative Care Unit,&quot; in care of The Sunnybrook Foundation, 2075 Bayview Avenue, Toronto, Ontario, M4N 3M5.
