It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Kaliopi Psihopedas, affectionately known as Popi, on May 14, 2026. She passed away peacefully at home at the age of 89.
Popi was born in Assimi, Lakonia, Greece, and immigrated to Canada in 1957, where she built a life centered on love, family, and devotion. She was a devoted wife to her beloved husband, Aristidis, whom she married on January 7, 1961, and with whom she shared many cherished years until his passing.
She will be lovingly remembered by her siblings Bessie (Stratis) Voulgaris, Antigone Athanasakos, and Steve (Mary) Konstantakos, as well as her brother in law John (Jenny) Psihopedas, Helen Diamantouros, Dimitra Psihopedas, and Bessie Psihopedas. She is predeceased by her parents, Kostas and Athena Konstantakos; her husband Aristidis; her brother-in-law Nick Athanasakos; her brother’s and sister in-law’s George and Pota Psihopedas; Nick and Maria Psihopedas; Peter Psihopedas; Kosta Psihopedas; Taso Psihopedas and John Diamantouros.
Popi was a cherished aunt—lovingly known as “Thea”—to many nieces and nephews, including Florence (Louie), Perry, Voula (John), Perry (Menny), Ann (Will), Gus (the late Helen), and Athina (Jim), along with Jim (Voula), Maria (Ciro), Sophie (Tom), Dimitra (John), Maria, Vicky (Michael), Jim, Maria, Ari (Helen), Jim (Potula), Maria (Christos), Maria (John), Donna, Roula (Stan), and Peter (Sia) and many others from both her own family and her husband’s family, all of whom held a special place in her heart.
She was a proud and loving Yiayia to many of her nieces and nephews children, whose lives were enriched by her warmth, wisdom, and affection. She had the blessing of meeting some of their children as well, a joy she treasured deeply.
Popi had a profound passion for her family and was known for her kindness, her joyful laughter, and her unconditional love. She created a home filled with warmth and will be remembered for the care and generosity she extended to everyone around her.
A viewing will be held at Elgin Mills Cemetery, located at 1591 Elgin Mills Road East, Richmond Hill, on May 20, 2026, from 4:00–8:00 p.m. The funeral service will take place on May 21, 2026, at 12:30 p.m. at St. Panteleimon, Anna & Paraskevi Greek Orthodox Church of Markham, 11323 Warden Avenue, Markham.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Panteleimon, Anna & Paraskevi Greek Orthodox Church or to the Alzheimer Society of Ontario.
