On Monday August 17 2015 at the age of 79 our dear Juris Skuja passed away peacefully, with his family by his side at Lakeridge Health centre in Oshawa.
He leaves behind his wife of 57 years Jean(Kettle), his sons Darren(Heather), Paul(Lesley), Andris and Juris(predeceased) along with many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also leaves behind his brothers Maris, Andris, Janis and Valdis and their wives and children. He will be sadly missed by the many friends he made through his life.
Born in Rujiena, Latvia the son of Karlis and Emma Skuja. The family was displaced during WWII. Travelling as displaced persons through Europe for several years, the family finally made their way to England in 1948.
Juris soon found work as a forestry worker in Kirkby Underwood. Later working as a felt roof contractor, he met his wife Jean Kettle and they were married at Bourne Abbey in 1958.
In 1972 the family emigrated to Canada where Juris was employed with Gibraltar Floors concrete for 5 years. He then went on to work for Runnymede Developments for over 20 years.
Juris had a passion for fishing and the outdoors, and he loved to take a walk down to the bay in the early morning to fish.
Many of you will remember his cheeky little chuckle with his shoulders shaking up and down. Juris smile would light up a room and it will be greatly missed as will he.
