Julia Maria Oleszko (nee Dorr), passed away peacefully in her home of natural causes, on Sept. 12, 2025 at the age of 98.
She was born in Hopfingen, Germany, one of four siblings, to parents Linus and Rosina Maria Dorr. Julie was pre-deceased by her husband Alex (2000) and her daughter Mary (2024). She is survived by her son Paul, who lives in British Columbia and her sister Luzia (92) and her many nieces and nephews in Germany.
Julie came to Canada, alone, in 1953, at the age of 26, to pursue a better life. She met and married her husband Alex a few years later. Together they bought a home, had 2 children, and later bought a cottage, which they all enjoyed and shared with friends and family. She loved gardening and you could always find her in her garden at home or at the cottage. It was Julie & Alex’s dream to retire there, so they built a new cottage beside the old cottage for that purpose. Unfortunately, that never came to be as Alex suffered a stroke at age 55. She took care of Alex for many years and they spent many more happy holidays at the cottage.
Julie worked for most of her working career, at York University as part of the custodial staff, until her retirement. She will be remembered as a very strong, determined woman who inspired others. We will miss her and will never forget her.
Visitation will be held at York Cemetery & Funeral Centre, 160 Beecroft Rd., Toronto, on September 27, from 9:30 am until 10:30 am, followed by a prayer service from 10:30 until 11:30. Burial of her ashes will at Beechwood Cemetery, 7241 Jane St., Concord at 12;00.
