<div itemprop="description">Peacefully with her daughters and Valerie by her hospital bedside, our &quot;wee Mum&quot; passed away on Friday November 27, 2015 at Brampton Civic Hospital at the age of 89. Beloved wife of the late Leslie John Thornton, loving mother to Joanne (Valerie), Denise (Rick), and John (Yelena). Nana to her treasured grandchildren Rebecca Hornby, Sonia and Luke Thornton. The last surviving child of Annie &amp; James Ferris, Josephine is predeceased by her siblings, Mary, John, Jimmy, Meg, Winnie, Tom, Michael, Eileen, Theresa, and Patrick. Mum will be dearly missed by her adoring nieces and nephews and their families in Belfast N.Ireland. &quot;Wee Auntie Josephine&quot; to Anne (Jim) Conlon, Patrick (Mary) Crossan, the late Michael and (Rosaline)Ferris ,and the late Michael and Philomena Crossan and the late John and Sadie Crossan. Tom, Jim, Eileen and Anne Ferris, Alan (Janet) Wilson, Doreen (Martin) McCready, Derek (Jeanette) Wilson and her dear sister in law, Phyllis (Billy) Wilson and the extended Thornton families of Robert and Eric Thornton in Larne. &quot;Great Aunt&quot; to Patrick (Maureen) Crossan, Jacqueline (Hugh) Murtagh, Denise (Shane) Smith, Mum will be fondly remembered by all her great nieces and newphews and friends back home in Ireland, especially John &amp; Sandra Rae and family. <br /> <br />At home in Brampton, Josephine will be dearly missed by her best friend of over 50 years, Maureen and the late Joe Freel, Yvonne &amp; Gary Patton and family, Karen Dougherty and family, Jean and Dawson Haggan and family and life long friends, May (Cecil) Meek, Lil and (Alec) Hyndman and family, Sadie and Gerry Lawlor and family, Marie and Joe Carolan and family, and dear friend Elsiemae (Fred) Canning, Stratford and the Soares gang in London, Ontario. Mum is fondly remembered by Muriel Hornby and extended family from Sault St Marie. Thank you to all the doctors who cared for mum, Dr.Rogers, Dr. Teper, Dr. Dheda, and Dr. Lorraine Kelleher, and the incredible Joan Ried, nurse geriatic specialist, who advocated for mum during a critical time when she was hospitalized and assessed and could not return to her home in Bramalea. To mum's CCAC case manager Michelle Warnock who tirelessly advocated for mum as her dementia progressed and she needed more care. Our gratitude to Malini Motwani and Andrea Duhamel at Greenway Retirement Home, and finally to the loving staff of Butterfly Lane in Burton Manor who tenderly cared for mum over the last six months as she progressed into long term and palliative care.
