Jose “Toti” Gutierrez, 79, of Scarborough, passed away peacefully on October 11, 2025, surrounded by his family. Born on January 25, 1946, in Sorsogon, Philippines, Jose built a life defined by dedication, generosity, and deep love for his family and community.

A devoted husband to Natividad “Naty” and proud father and grandfather to Raffy; Mary Jane, Nick, Anthony, Gianna, Nicolas; Mary Jo; Mary Ann, Jason, Isabel; Jose Jr., Senya, Clarisse, Zoe, Zane; Jonathan; and Jerico. Jose took immense joy in being a constant presence in the lives of his children and grandchildren. He was a steadfast patriarch whose warmth and guidance were pillars of strength for those who loved him.

Professionally, Jose spent over 20 years as an accountant with Shoppers Drug Mart Canada, where his integrity and diligence earned the respect of all who worked alongside him. Beyond his career, he was one of the few Founding Officers and decades-long active member of the Bicol Association of Canada and the Ateneo Alumni Association of Canada. Supporting educational opportunities for underprivileged youth in the Philippines, strengthening the community and Bicol culture.

Jose’s passions included cheering for the Toronto Blue Jays and the Raptors, cooking for his family, and enjoying friendly outings to his favorite casino in Niagara Falls. Ever informed, he followed current events closely, engaging deeply with political discussions.

Those we love remain with us, for love itself lives on, and cherished memories never fade because a loved one’s gone. Those we love can never be more than a thought apart, for as long as there is memory, they’ll live on in the heart.
