In loving memory of Dr. Jonathan Sheldon "Chojo" Chow, born July 10, 1959, who passed peacefully on May 21, 2026. A courageous cancer survivor who fought with remarkable strength for five years, Dr. Chow ultimately passed from complications of a different illness. Through every treatment and every hardship, he never once complained, always offering a gentle smile and softly saying, “I am fine.”
Dr. Chow was the kindest, most resilient, and gracious soul, an angel among us who now shines brightly in heaven. As an emergency physician in St. Catharines, he did far more than save lives. He touched countless souls through his compassion, calm presence, and extraordinary kindness. Though a man of few words, Jon carried a quiet wisdom that spoke deeply to those around him. He was fiercely protective of those he loved and was always encouraging others, especially young people, to work hard while still embracing the beauty life has to offer. He never failed to express gratitude, even for the smallest acts of kindness shown to him.
In his later years, Jon found peace in Buddhist practice. He dedicated time each day to spreading kindness, love, and prayers for others. An avid reader with an endlessly curious mind, he found joy in movies, music, traveling, science, baseball, and peaceful walks in nature. He loved spending time with his beloved cat, Tiger.
Jon is survived by his children, Mackenzie and Braeden, and was dearly loved by Fortuna, Andrew, Marie-Jeanne, Hermes, Doris, and many dear friends and family members whose lives were forever brightened by his presence.
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to his caregivers, his family physician, and the many specialists who supported him, particularly the Cancer Care team at Credit Valley Hospital, the Stem Cell Transplant and CAR T-cell teams at Juravinski, the Liver Clinic team at UHN, and the team at Trillium Hospital. We are also profoundly thankful to his colleagues, friends, and family who stood by him with unrelenting love and support.
Dr. Chow's generous heart, gentle wisdom, radiant love, and beautiful soul left a lasting mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him. Heaven is blessed to welcome him home. His light and peaceful spirit will live on forever in the hearts of all those he touched so deeply.
