John Gordon Ross
October 9, 1925 - August 13, 2015
John Gordon Ross passed away August 13th, 2015, peacefully at home in his 90th year with his family by his side. Survived by his wife of 62 years, Romayne, and his children Barry (Sue Beatty), Greg, and Jennifer (Nick Mason). Dad will always be remembered as Gramps to his granddaughter Jessica - what a pair they were. Dad was born in Antigonish, Nova Scotia on October 9th, 1925 to George and Lena (Marshall) Ross. He was raised in Sherbrooke, Nova Scotia, the youngest of seven Ross kids - Graham, Marshall aka Ben, Mary Grace, Elinor, Mac, and Bob. He served in the Air Force in WWII in Labrador and Ottawa. Dad moved to Toronto in 1951. His hometown sweetheart, Romayne Macdonald, followed and they were married in 1953. Most of his career was spent managing Foam and Plastics Industries in Richmond Hill, retiring in 1993. Dad loved his extended family and kept in touch with everyone in the family tree. The last of a generation, Dad will be missed by his family both near and far.
Dad was an avid hockey player in his youth but his true passion in sport was golf. Nicknamed “Arnie”, Dad just loved the game – the challenge, the precision, the complexity, the etiquette. Golf was Dad’s analogy to life. And, he shared that passion with so many, many people. “Golf with Dad” connected more people than can be counted.
A Celebration of Life will be held at The Simple Alternative, 1535 South Gateway Road, Mississauga on Saturday, August 29th. Service at 2pm. Memorial gathering one hour prior. Golf shirts optional.
