It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John “Jack” Codner, who died peacefully on August 18th, 2025, at the age of 90.
Jack was raised in East York in the loving home of his parents, Hector and Gertrude Codner and his 4 younger siblings. He met and married Doris Ridgewell in 1953 and together they welcomed their daughter, Patricia, in 1954.
Jack followed in his father’s footsteps as an auto mechanic and built a reliable business where he always went the extra mile for his customers. He loved the people and loved the work. With equal zeal he spent his leisure time pursuing his many hobbies: downhill skiing, snowmobiling, motorcycling, and boating. In retirement he enjoyed traveling and time with friends and family. Jack’s cottage in Huntsville was the backdrop for many of his pursuits. He poured himself into working at the cottage and he treasured the property, which brought family and friends together. All Codner children have beautiful memories of summers and winters spent at the cottage with ‘Uncle Jack’. Jack is survived by his daughter, Patricia “Patty”; grandchildren, Aaron (Kimberly) and Deanna (Marc-Joel); brother, Don (Lois); companion, Margaret; and his large extended family. He was predeceased by his wife, Doris, and siblings, Evelyn, William, and Reginald.
A visitation will be held at Pine Hills Funeral Centre in Scarborough on Thursday, September 4th, 2025 from 1 to 4 p.m.
A private family service will be held.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Alzheimer Society of Canada in Jack’s memory.
