With sadness we announce the passing of John Frederick Eckertt, in his 95th year, at the Sunnybrook Veterans' Centre, Toronto, on Saturday, January 16, 2016. John served proudly as a R.C.A.F. Navigator for 4 years, in India/Burma, during WWII. John lost his beloved Ruby, after a 50 year marriage, in 1993. He was a dear Father to Gordon and Carolyn and proud Grandfather to Christopher and Michael. As the eldest in his family, he is survived by sister Freda Tonet of Niagara Falls and sisters-in-law Edith Silk (Lloyd) and Audrey Whitcombe (Harold), of Jackson's Point. He also leaves several fine nephews and their families. John worked for 30 years in Federal Government service and was a devoted member of the Masonic Order, the Eastern Star, Shriner's, Boy Scouts, Air Cadets, Air Crew Association, Burma Star and the Royal Canadian Legion. He was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman and lived a life of service and generosity. He will be dearly missed. Our respect and thanks to the staff of K1W at the Sunnybrook Veterans' Centre and Dr. Chu and Dr. V. Lin is immeasurable. We will honour John's life on Saturday, January 23, 2016, at PINE HILLS VISITATION CENTRE, 625 Birchmount Rd., Scarborough. Visitation from 10 - 11 a.m. followed by a Service at 11 a.m. Cremation and interment at a later time. A memorial tribute to the Sunnybrook Veterans' Centre or a charity of your choice were John's wish, in lieu of flowers.
