It is with deep sadness to announce that John “David” Stevens passed away on Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 pm on December 30. 2025, at the age of 60. David was born February 25, 1965. David’s parents moved David to the town of Newmarket when he was 4. David grew up in Newmarket and participated in soccer, wrestling and high school football and many other sports. It was at a very young age when David learned a strong work ethic to work hard (David had a paper route with the Toronto Star, when he was a child and didn’t know that he had one of the largest paper routes until he decided to give it up). David graduated from Huron Heights Secondary School and later attended Humber College for Journalism. David went on and furthered his career in radio (Prevailing Winds), film, media, public relations (Still Lake Communications and Promotions), timber cruising and television & broadcasting (John “David” was instrumental in support and the development of indigenous television – APTN). David volunteered at many first nations nonprofit organizations, not for gain but to give back to the community as much as possible.
Many people did not see his gentle spirit, but David was about making the world a better place than it was before. If you needed help or needed extra encouragement, John “David” made sure he took the time to spend time with you and have a little fun as well. David loved his friends and family and often remarked about all the special times and adventures he spent with each and every one of you. David had the special gift to see the best in everyone.
David was preceded in death by his parents John and Priscilla Stevens and his brother Daniel (stillborn). David survives and is greatly missed by his sister Ace, his kitty Anthony and by his friends and many relatives.
David and family would like to thank all the medical staff and PSW’s who helped in his final days.
David wrote a final article at his internship at the newspaper The ERA back on Wednesday, November 5, 1986. We hope you enjoy his final article, in case you missed it the first time.
