With deep love and sadness, the family of John (Jack) David Cloughley announces his peaceful passing on January 30, 2026, just three months shy of his 100th birthday.
Born in Glasgow, Scotland, Jack came into the world on April 26, 1926. He grew up during challenging times and began his working life in the Glasgow shipyards, proudly contributing to the WWII effort. In 1947, he married the love of his life, Catherine Burns, beginning a devoted and joyful marriage that endured until her passing twenty-two years ago. Together, they raised two daughters, Irene Cloughley and Catherine Janna (Nick Janna), and in 1957 the family made a new home in Montreal, Canada.
Jack was industrious, hardworking, and endlessly resourceful. After trying his hand at a few different jobs, he found his place in 1968 as a mechanic with Air Canada, where he built lasting friendships and enjoyed a fulfilling career until his retirement in 1988.
Family was the heart of Jack’s life. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather, and he took immense pride in each generation. He will be deeply missed by his grandchildren—Jennifer Leduc (Doug Gardner), Christine McCrady (Mark Richards), Nicholas Janna (Samantha Conley), and Olivia Fliss (David Fliss)—and his great grandchildren—James (Jimmy) McCrady, Ariel & Esme Gardner, Emerson, Borden & Lexi Janna, and Justin & Janna Fliss.
In 2000, John moved to Toronto, where he quickly became a cherished part of his community. Over the last five years, Jack lived independently at the Chartwell Grenadier Retirement Residence in Toronto. Well known as the enthusiastic bingo caller at the seniors’ centre, Jack always had a song for every moment. He loved lawn bowling, travelling, and was an avid golfer well into his later years. Above all, he was the man who brought laughter and light to every room and always had a story to share.
Jack lived a long, rich, and joyful life. His kindness, humour, and steadfast love for his family will be forever remembered.
