John Androvics
April 16, 1916 - April 18, 2013
Androvics, Janis (John) –
(April 16,1916-April 18,2013)
It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce that John Androvics passed away peacefully on April 18th, 2013.
Born April 16th, 1916 in the hamlet of Ergli in Latvia, John spent his early days working on his family's farm until he took interest in buildings and structures. He gained a technical degree in Civil Engineering and worked his way up through the Latvian construction industry working on bridges and infrastructure projects in Riga. Once the turmoil from WWII had reached Latvia, he immigrated to Canada as a displaced citizen and began to start his new life. He met Alise his future wife whom he often referred to as his “Special Angel” and soon thereafter started a family.
John was a prominent homebuilder throughout the early 1950s until the mid-1980s, developing large estate homes in many prestigious communities throughout Toronto. Many of his happiest moments were spent fishing and spending quality time with his family and friends at the family cottage in the Kawartha Lakes. Among the people who knew him, he was recognized as a great fisherman and was often referred to as the "Musky King" of Deer Bay.
He was a loving and caring father, devoted husband and grandfather, and had an involved and strong presence in the lives of his family. John had just celebrated his 97th birthday with his family when he was admitted to Mackenzie Health Centre due to complications of the heart and lungs. Quickly joined by his two sons, Karlis and John Jr, and daughter-in law Terri who cared for and supported him during his final hours. He leaves behind his wife of sixty-two years, Alise (Feldmanis) along with his beloved children, Inara Houston (Stuart), John Jr., Karlis (Terri), and his loving grandchildren; Alissa and Jon Houston, Cameron and Brie Androvics.
John was a man of generous contribution and devout faith, whose contributions were only exceeded by his humility. He left the world knowing he had lived a long and blessed life. He may have left us, but he will forever be cherished in our hearts and always remembered for his indomitable spirit, and enduring love.
