In Memory Of:
John Allan Taylor Hillier
September 30, 1951 - January 14, 2026
It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of John Allan Taylor Hillier, who passed away at his home in Newmarket, ON on January 14, 2026, at the age of 74.
John was born in Toronto, ON on September 30, 1951, to William and Marion (Joyce) Hillier. He graduated high school in Corner Brook, Newfoundland in 1968 and after completing a university preparation year at a local Catholic school, began his career with the Bank of Montreal in 1969. His work took him to Churchill Falls, Labrador and Halifax, Nova Scotia. On Christmas Eve of 1970, he joined his family in a move to Toronto, where he continued his banking career with TD Bank.
John’s true passion was working with his hands. He spent countless hours repairing and improving his truck, lawnmowers, snowblowers, and any small engines he could get his hands on.
Curious by nature, John also had a deep interest in the world. He enjoyed reading about politics, economics, and global events, always eager to learn more about the issues shaping society.
A talented writer, John created 110 stories, songs, and poems over the course of several years - collectively known as The Book of JATH.
He found joy in the outdoors: hunting, riding ATVs, and spending time at the camp in Huntsville, ON with his siblings.
John’s Christian faith was extremely important to him. His beliefs guided him throughout his life and shaped the wisdom and kindness he shared with others.
Above all, John’s greatest legacy was the love he had for his children. His pride in them was unwavering, and his presence in their lives will forever be cherished.
John will be dearly missed by his siblings, David (Karen), Harold (Rhonda), Lloyd (Irene), Mervin (Linda), and Barbara; his children, Jeff (Aynsley), Michelle, Melissa (Valentino), Sean, and Nathan; his grandchildren, Bayley (Katrina), Brock, Bryar, Cristian, and Carter; and his great-grandchildren, Cedar, Bruin, and Colt; as well as a large number of nephews and nieces.
We take comfort in knowing that John is with God in Heaven.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
