Gifford: Dorothy Joan Watkins

Joan left us in her 92nd year and was predeceased by her husband of 44 years, Allan W. Gifford. Wonderful Mom to Susan Gifford Parker, Alix Gifford (Chas Elliott), Lance Gifford (Isobel Manzer). Grandmother to Robin and Tim Parker, Jeremy and Matthew Pigott, Jamie and Kate Gifford. Great Grandmother to Anthony Parker. Joan was born in Toronto in 1920 to Dorothy and Jim Watkins. She attended Brown School, St Clement's School, North Toronto Collegiate and during the depression years, schools in Winnipeg. All these moves sadly interrupted her education, so it was with great pride that years later, she received the designation Fellow of the Real Estate Institute, attending courses at U of T, with the highest mark across Canada in Economics in that program for that year. Her professional career began in 1960 when it was suggested that she might enjoy selling real estate, first with Armour Boswell, then Johnston and Daniel, a company she took great pride in and remained loyal to for over thirty years, rising to the position of V.P. But her greatest accomplishment was as a terrific Mom. Though working often very long hours, she always had time for her kids; always supportive, encouraging and positive. Joan loved her family, her home and gardens. She will be sadly missed by all the family. It is with warm gratitude that the family thanks Mom's amazing care givers of six years, Nelly Ambaguil, and Priscila Saludez, and to the back up help from Elaine and Josephine. A special thanks also to Nurse Practitioner, Heather Taylor. Service to be held at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery Visitation Centre, 375 Mt. Pleasant Rd., [east gate entrance, north of St. Clair Ave., 416-485-5572] on Wednesday, June 6 at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the charity of your choice would be appreciated
