With heartfelt love and profound sadness, we share the passing of Jette Galer, who left us on November 30, 2025, at the age of 78. After bravely facing Alzheimer’s for more than nine years, Jette passed peacefully at Bay Ridges Long Term Care Home, with her devoted husband, Alan Galer, by her side.
Jette is survived by her loving husband Alan; daughter Evette Sirillas and son-in-law Bill Sirillas; son Jeremy Galer and daughter-in-law Shelley Galer; and is predeceased by her beloved daughter Erin Galer. She was a cherished grandmother to Yanni Sirillas, Sophia Sirillas, Stefanie Sirillas, Nicole Galer, and Cody Galer.
She is also remembered by her siblings: brother Erik Hansen (and sister-in-law Khulan Hansen) and sister Susan Johnson (and brother-in-law Ted Johnson), as well as sister Diann McPhail (partner Dave). She was predeceased by her brother-in-law Neil McPhail. Jette leaves behind many nieces and nephews, including Candace Hansen, Cindy Hansen, Thomas Hansen, Julia Hansen, Helene Johnson, Rochelle Johnson, and Peter McPhail, along with numerous grand-nieces and grand-nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Gudren Hansen and Hans Peter Hansen.
Born in Ribe, Denmark, Jette immigrated to Canada in 1957 and made Pickering her home for 43 years. She will be remembered for her big heart, her honesty, her adventurous spirit, and her unwavering love for family and friends.
Jette’s hobbies reflected her curiosity and zest for life: collecting stamps, coins, and jewelry; gardening rhubarb, strawberries, raspberries, and Danish ivy; joining a bowling league; playing board and card games; and camping at Pinery Provincial Park. She loved long car rides and private flights into the sunset with Alan.
A true environmentalist before it was common practice, Jette believed in recycling and composting and even saved enough through bottle returns to fund a trip to Denmark. Her travels took her to England, Denmark, Holland, and Germany, and she always enjoyed her simple pleasures—especially a strong black coffee with toast and jam.
Jette’s life was a beautiful journey of love, resilience, and generosity. She will be deeply missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. May she rest peacefully, reunited with loved ones who went before her.
