Jennifer Watson (née Corbett), lovingly known as Jen, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2026, in Oakville, Ontario, at the age of 79.
Born on July 27, 1946, in Smethwick, England, Jen was the daughter of the late William and Joan Corbett. Raised in post-war England, she developed a deep sense of family, strong values, and a quiet resilience that would carry her through life's many chapters. She was proud of her English roots and especially proud to be the daughter of a British soldier who served during the Second World War.
Jen attended Sandwell School for Girls. After leaving school, when eligible, she worked in Birmingham providing secretarial support, while embracing all the excitement and energy of Britain's "Swinging Sixties." She loved music, dancing, and fashion, and was a devoted fan of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Tom Jones and many of the iconic artists of the era. She embraced the Mod culture and loved spending evenings dancing with friends, creating memories that would stay with her throughout her life.
In 1966, Jen immigrated to Canada with a spirit of adventure and hope for the future. She began working at Eaton's, where her impeccable sense of style and outgoing personality quickly earned her a promotion from office clerk to fashion buyer. She took great pride in helping others find the perfect outfit for life's most memorable occasions.
Jen found joy in life's simple pleasures and had a remarkable gift for making people feel welcome. Whether sharing a proper cup of tea and something sweet, preparing a holiday meal, or gathering friends and family around the table, she created moments that brought people together. A talented baker, wonderful cook, and natural hostess, her shortbread cookies and sausage rolls became cherished family favourites. She was happiest preparing Christmas dinners, hosting lively summer afternoons by the pool, and filling her home with laughter, friendship, and good conversation. Her warmth, humour, and outgoing nature drew people to her throughout her life. She also loved flowers, antiques, music, and soap operas, finding joy and comfort in the simple pleasures that enriched her life.
Music remained a constant throughout Jen's life. The Beatles, in particular, held a special place in her heart, and their songs became woven into the fabric of family life. Some of her family's fondest memories are of listening to records, playing cards, dancing, and sharing laughter together.
Family remained at the heart of Jen's life. She was a devoted mother to her sons, Rob and Greg. Like many families, theirs experienced both joys and challenges over the years, but her love for her boys never wavered. She cared deeply for them, celebrated their accomplishments with immense pride, and carried their happiness and well-being in her heart throughout her life. Her love only grew as she welcomed grandchildren into the family she cherished so deeply.
In her later years, Jen made her home in Oakville, where she enjoyed spending time with friends, keeping in touch with family, and doting on her beloved dog, Cookie, whose companionship brought her great comfort and happiness.
Jen was a spirited, complex, and unforgettable person who lived life on her own terms. Creative, vivacious, and fun-loving, she brought energy, humour, and personality wherever she went. She will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know and love her.
Jen is lovingly remembered by her sons, Rob and Greg; her daughter-in-law, Beth; her sisters, Lynda and Jackie; her brother, Andrew; her grandchildren, Mackenzie, William, Kyle, and Amelia; Grandpa Gord; and her many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Her family will continue to honour her memory through the music, traditions, laughter, and simple pleasures she loved so dearly.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the healthcare professionals who cared for Jen with kindness, compassion, and dignity throughout her final days.
