With profound sadness, and eternal hope we announce the passing of Jean, 95, a cherished, daughter, sister, auntie, wife, mother, grandmother and friend, who left us peacefully on July 23, 2025. Jean’s unwavering love, kindness, strength and compassion touched everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Born in Pentre, Wales to Arthur and Elizabeth Redwood. Jean was one of 8 children and is predeceased by Betty, Graham, David, Bert, Sidney and Albert. Jean’s one living sister, Valerie was born when Jean was 16 and Jean always had a special bond with her, saying that Valerie was her baby. Jean lived most of her life in England in Street, Somerset in the Southwest of England. Where she attended school and at the age of 14 was employed by the Clark’s Shoe Factory. From the age of 14-16, Jean would attend school in the morning at the factory and then work in the afternoon.
Jean met her beloved Bill at a Church dance and they were married on April 17, 1954. Bill was in the Royal Navy and she travelled with him sometimes but also stayed home with the children while he was at sea. They had four children Robert, Jane, Michael & Alison.
In 1967 Jean and Bill and their 4 children immigrated to Canada. This was a very courageous move for Jean. For the first few years Jean was deeply homesick but settled in once she started building some friendships in Canada. Jean retired from Hilti Canada in 1995 after working there for many years.
Jean enjoyed knitting, reading, bingo and watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy but nothing beat a good hand of Euchre or a game of Skipbo.
Jean is survived by sons Robert (Marianne) and Michael (Carolyn) and her daughter Alison (Ron). Grandchildren Jennifer (Martha), David (Jodi), Ashley, Amanda (Andrew), Matthew (Cass), Gareth (Andrea), Patrick (Emma), Emma (Gianni), Laurel (Alex), Kayla (Chris), Chelsea (Jeremy), Grant, Emily (Cris), Michelle (Mark) and Brandon (Ashley). Great Grandchildren Taylor, Avery, James, Jacob, Olivia, Diana, Laila, Harper, Audrey, William, Teddy.
Jean was predeceased by her husband, William (Bill) 2006, her daughter, Jane 2015 and her son in law, David 2017.
Jean was a very special Auntie to numerous nieces and nephews. Jean will be dearly missed by a very large extended family overseas.
Jean was deeply loved and cared for by a group of friends that continually kept in touch with her or would check in via Alison. Mary Southcott, Anne & Fred Bertolini, Margaret and Alex Tannahill, Vivian Stead, Karen Shorter, Mary Jacobs, Debbie Johnson and Agnes McNally.
Jean’s family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff at Bramalea Retirement Residence and Canes Community Care. Thank you for the care, love and dignity showed to our Mum.
